Alhambra Palace Hotel Suites and Resort
Alhambra Palace Hotel is a recently-renovated historic landmark in Ramallah. Built as a private residence in 1926, it was converted into a hotel in 1947 by the Ramallah Summer Resorts Company, at a time when Ramallah was still a very small town. The hotel enjoys a favorable location that is within walking distance to the town center, yet in a wooded area, facing the Western hills, that provides a beautiful view, shade, and a cooling summer breeze. Until the 1970's, the hotel served as a summer resort for Arab visitors and dignitaries, including kings, princes and ministers. The Hotel hosted many types of events and often accomodated celebrities, and prominent Movie Stars. Among its many conferences was the 1967 Arab Lawyers' Conference.
During the 1980s and 1990s, the Alhambra Palace Hotel was leased to Birzeit University to use as a student residence. The building was recently re-acquired and reopened as "Alhambra Palace Hotel Suites and Resort" in June 2009, after a total renovation that provides guests with modern amenities while fully retaining the historic elements of the building’s architecture. Alhambra Palace Hotel shares the same management as the world-famous Mount Scopus Hotel in Jerusalem, benefiting from decades of hospitality experience.
The Alhambra Palace was built in a Mediterranean villa style with unique elements of Palestinian architecture at the turn of the 20th century. The thick rose-colored stone walls, decorative floor tiles, and beautiful arched windows offer the pleasant feel of an era long gone.
The building enjoys an extensive garden with a restaurant in which guests can enjoy a laid-back breakfast or an entertaining evening. Although Ramallah has grown into a fairly large city, the hotel remains in a relatively quiet neighborhood.
